Be careful
Before starting repairs, turn off the wall switch and cut off the power to the ceiling fan. Locate the circuit breaker on the electrical service panel that controls the ceiling fan and turn it off. Then open the ceiling fan casing and double check with a test pen that the power has been turned off. Remember that the next step can only be started when the power is turned off.

External Ceiling Fan Pull Chain Broken Repair
If the remaining ceiling fan chain on the ceiling fan protrudes at least 1/2 inch beyond the fan housing, only add the ceiling fan chain extension. It's easiest to get the repair done as long as you have plenty of slings on hand.
Attach the extension cord to the end of the remaining ceiling fan chain, then push firmly to snap the end of the chain into the connector.
But when you can't see the ceiling fan chain, it could mean that the zipper inside the ceiling fan is broken near or inside the ceiling fan pull cord switch. In this case, this simple repair has no effect and must continue to the next step.
Remove the metal collar and open the ceiling fan base
Unscrew the metal ring through which the ceiling fan chain should go. First try to remove the metal collar by turning counterclockwise, if that doesn't work, use pliers and a soft cloth to wrap around the metal ring to protect the ring and fan housing from damage, then also turn counterclockwise to remove the metal collar.
Remove all bulbs from ceiling fans. Then, using a hand screwdriver, unscrew the screws securing the removable lower part from the ceiling fan motor base. Set aside the removed screws while gently pulling down on the removable part, then open the ceiling fan base.
Remove the pull chain switch
Please find the ceiling fan chain switch. It should be a small plastic unit, usually with a clear side. You can even see broken wires inside the switch unit. Take it off carefully, usually the three or four wires that go to the fan.
Be careful not to try to secure the pull chain switch. It's easier and safer to throw away the old switch and replace it with a new one. Ceiling fan pull cord switch kits are inexpensive and readily available. The bottom line is that the new switch is more secure.
Carefully cut the wires from the ceiling fan chain switch
Using wire strippers, use the cut section to cut off the three to four wires that connect the ceiling fan chain switch to the base of the ceiling fan. Attach 2-3 inches of wire to the ceiling fan base to make it easier to rewire the new zip switch. Of course the wire length can be connected according to your needs.
Connect the new pull switch to the ceiling fan
After stripping the plastic from the wires to expose the copper wires, connect the three or four wires from the new ceiling fan chain pull switch to the fan's wires. Twist the wires together and use a plastic wire nut against each connection. At this time, what we should pay attention to is that the wiring should be matched, and the new switch wiring should be matched with the remaining wiring.
Then we can reconnected the wiring switch to the base and passed the sling through the metal hole in the case.
Reassemble and Test Ceiling Fans
Reinstall the bottom of the ceiling fan by hand-tightening the metal ring. Add bulbs of the appropriate size as required, then turn power back on to the circuit breaker and any wall switches, and test the fan by carefully pulling the ceiling fan lever. If the fan is working properly, then you can use it with confidence. If it doesn't work, you can try to recheck with the previous method.
